Johnson County, TX Marriage License: Requirements, Cost, and 162 Filings Last Month

How to get a marriage license in Johnson County, Texas, plus live filing counts from Cleburne, Burleson, and Joshua so you can see how busy the clerk actually is.

Johnson County sits just south of Fort Worth, and its clerk's office in Cleburne issues marriage licenses for Burleson, Joshua, Alvarado, Keene, and the rest of the county. In the 30 days ending September 2, 2026, 162 couples filed there. Over the last 90 days the count is 411. This guide covers what you need to bring, what it costs, how long it takes, and what the filing numbers say about the local wedding calendar.

Requirements

Both applicants appear in person at the Johnson County Clerk's office with a valid government photo ID and proof of age. Texas requires both parties to be 18 or older; 16 and 17 year olds need a court order. You will give your Social Security number if you have one, and you will each sign the application under oath. If either of you was divorced in the last 30 days, bring the decree, because Texas has a 30-day waiting period after a divorce unless a judge waives it.

You do not need to be a Texas resident, and you do not need a blood test.

Cost and the waiting period

Texas sets the base fee by statute and counties add local charges, so budget in the $80 range and confirm the current amount with the clerk before you go. Couples who complete the state's free premarital education course, Twogether in Texas, get $60 off the fee and skip the 72-hour waiting period. Without the certificate, the license is valid starting 72 hours after it is issued. Active-duty military are also exempt from the wait.

The license is good for 90 days. If the ceremony does not happen inside that window, you apply again.

How busy the Johnson County clerk is right now

Marriage Signals tracks public marriage filings by county. Johnson County, month by month, since our coverage began:

MonthFilings
April 202677
May 202690
June 2026142
July 2026120
August 2026144
September 2026 (through the 2nd)22

June and August are the peaks, which matches the wedding season most Texas counties show. The practical takeaway: if you are filing in a peak month, go early in the week and early in the day. The office does not take appointments for licenses.

For wedding vendors

Those 162 couples a month are the demand behind every florist, photographer, DJ, and venue in Cleburne and Burleson. Marriage Signals publishes the public filings for Johnson County and 400 other counties, updated as the clerks post them, so vendors can see who is getting married in their area while there is still a budget to spend. The county page shows the most recent filings and the trend.
